Striking Gold Piano Series
Chetham’s Keyboard department has made waves across the musical world for more than 50 years, when a young Peter Donohoe was one of the first music students at the School.
For our fiftieth Anniversary, we welcome ‘fifty fingers’ – five outstanding pianissts, almost all of them former students of Chetham’s, to help mark the School’s golden jubilee year. Highlighting late piano works by composers central to the classical canon, from Beethoven to Bach, it’s a gathering of some of the greatest names in the keyboard world.
This Woman’s Work runs from November 2018 – with the world première of Carpe Vitam, a new film marking the centenary of women’s right to vote, with music by Laura Rossi performed by Chetham’s Chamber Choir – until March 2019, when events around International Women’s Day will include music by Clara Schumann, Sally Beamish, Nicola LeFanu and emerging female composers. There’ll be masterclasses, discussion and learning opportunities, and concerts by the Albany Piano Trio and other women artists, and, as ever, involvement from current and former students of Chetham’s.
