HRH The Earl of Wessex helps to launch our 50th Anniversary Year

Last month our Royal Patron, HRH The Earl of Wessex, helped us to launch our Fiftieth Anniversary celebrations at a special lunch at Buckingham Palace.

The lunch included an ‘Inside the Orchestra’ performance by ten Chetham’s students, where guests and The Earl of Wessex sat amongst the students as they rehearsed Britten’s Soirées musicales, conducted by Director of Music Stephen Threlfall. The Earl also took part in the performance, ably taking on the side drum!

Following the performance, HRH chatted to the students about their studies, before joining our guests for lunch.

In 2019 we celebrate our Fiftieth Anniversary as a specialist music school – an opportunity to celebrate half a century of music, and to look ahead to the next fifty years

Throughout 2019 we will celebrate all that Chetham’s is today with a programme of fifty concerts throughout the year, showcasing students and alumni, outreach events that impact on our communities and world-renowned musicians taking to The Stoller Hall stage.
