Manchester Arena incident

Our sympathies are with all of those affected by last night’s incident at Manchester Arena. Not only the physical proximity of the event, but its impact on young people enjoying music, brings the news close to our hearts.

Boarding students and staff at Chetham’s remain safe, and we’re grateful to police for their guidance throughout the night. At present the School remains inside the cordon zone and we are asking staff, students, parents and visitors to remain where they are until further notice.

UPDATE:
Tuesday 23 May, 16:15

As the police cordon is estimated to last for some time to come, we have been advised by police to allow boarders to return home early for half term.

Families, please visit the parents’ portal for full details about collecting students from the school site.

All school concerts scheduled for this week, both on and offsite, have been cancelled. Ticket holders will be contacted. A decision regarding events in The Stoller Hall will be made shortly.

We envisage that all students will have left the site by tomorrow lunchtime.

A message from the Head: “Our students and staff have been quite remarkable at this tragic time. Levels of cooperation, team spirit and a genuine care for the people of Manchester have been quite exceptional and I am so proud of each and every one.”

Families, please contact House staff using the details on the portal.

Staff, please check emails for further information.
