A week of performance by young musicians at Chetham’s School of Music.
Three times each year, we devotes a week to musical performance. In October, it’s the first opportunity for many of our newest students to perform in a variety of ensembles, on the magnificent Stoller Hall stage.
The piano department opens the festival, performing Debussy’s complete works for piano across a full day of music on Sunday 7 October, introduced by Debussy expert Roy Howat.
Then on Wednesday 17 October it’s a triple bill for ensembles of all ages; first younger ensembles, drawing together players from across the instrumental departments, in the Ensembles Concert at 4pm. At 6pm, Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra give the first of two performances – an hour long celebration of music from the early 20th century, in Ravel’s Piano Concerto and Stravinsky’s The Firebird Suite.
Film lovers can arrive early for the evening concert, joining special guests at 7.15pm to discover the music of the movies, before CSO launch into a full cinematic programme at 8pm, include music from Gladiator, La La Land and Frozen, among others! Keep in touch to hear who’ll be joining us for the evening.
Finally, we celebrate a special friendship with our Norwegian counterparts at the Barratt Due Institute of Music, Oslo, as the newly formed Nørthern Lights Chamber Orchestra present a programme of virtuosic works and demanding solos showcasing students from both countries.
