Monday to Friday and one hour before each concert
This summer we are opening our doors for three new Open events, aimed at young musicians considering applications to Chetham’s in 2019 and beyond.
Each session lasts two hours, and is based around the interests of different age groups within the school.
You’re thinking of visiting our Junior Open Afternoon, aimed at families considering applications for entry into Years 4-6.
During the afternoon, you’ll start off as a whole family to meet key staff and current students in an informal chat about the school. Then, children will be invited to join staff from our Outreach and Junior Music teams in a fun, informal music workshop alongside current Junior students, whilst adults talk in more detail about the curriculum, wellbeing and the application process, at Junior level and further up the school. The workshop’s designed to create a space to enjoy making music and to chat to other children about their life at Chetham’s – we know you may be some way off an audition, and we won’t be assessing children in any way during the session.
The minimum age for children joining the workshop is 5. Parents and children will be in neighbouring spaces and may come and go as required.
Before the end of the day, children will have made some new friends and created some music to show off to their families – and you will all have had chance to learn more about what Chetham’s has to offer, and how an early specialism can support your child’s development both as a musician, and as a well rounded young person.
Directly before the Open Afternoon, our third Children’s Concert invites families to explore the Musical Menagerie. Encountering strange creatures, colourful characters and mysterious happenings, it tells a magical musical tale to set your imagination on fire!
Why not book for both and inspire your young musicians before the session? The concert will last approximately one hour, allowing time for lunch between the two events.
