Open Days

Throughout the year we open up the school, inviting visitors to meet staff and students, explore our purpose-designed school building, hear rehearsals in progress and find out more about our music programme, academic study, boarding and welfare.

"Fabulous resources, wonderful atmosphere, extremely knowledgeable guide"

Open Days are a perfect opportunity to discover more about Chetham’s, whether you’re thinking of applying, finding out more on behalf of your music students, or simply interested in discovering what we do!

Prospective students and parents will have opportunities to have all of their questions answered – from financial and academic arrangements, to catering and weekend activities. All visitors will have chance to meet and be guided around School by current students, and the schedule for the day includes time and space to meet individually with Heads of School, instrumental and academic staff, the Principal and Bursar, as well as to view the spaces in which Chetham’s students live and learn.

“(My daughter) is nervous about change (…) but today has made her feel much better.”

We have two types of Open Day:

Main Open Days

Main Open Days take place each October and January. Students of all ages are invited to discover the entire school, dividing into age groups – Lower School, Middle School and Sixth Form – in the late morning to discuss matters relevant to their stage of learning. In the afternoon, visitors are free to visit open rehearsals and chat individually to key staff.

Summer Open Days

During the Summer term, we offer shorter Open Afternoons and Evenings for students considering joining the Lower School, Middle School or Sixth Form. Aimed primarily at students planning ahead to applications the following September, they offer a briefer glimpse of the school and chance to chat to staff and students about all aspects of school life. In the Lower School session, children are invited to take part in fun music workshops alongside current students whilst parents focus on the academic and music programme, welfare and boarding.

“Staff and students alike were extremely polite, knowledgeable and above all kind. I found the school to be more like a family where everyone was valued and cherished for their individuality and own uniqueness.”
