Julia freelanced as a violinist with many Northern orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic, Opera North and Northern Sinfonia to name a few. She then went into Musical Theatre for many years, playing on Les Miserables and The Phantom of the Opera, but retired when her daughter was school age as it proved impossible to tour as a single parent!
Julia moved to London in January 2018 to be near family
What was the best thing about your time at Chetham’s?
“The opportunity to be taught by amazing teachers and play/sing in a variety of ensembles. Good friends too and they still are!”
What’s your favourite memory of Chetham’s?
“Mr Mike Asquith, what an amazing guy, broke my heart that he had passed away the year I left Chets. Mrs James gave me such a love of history, I remember an impromptu trip out to see the flying Scotsman (?) I think, Simon and Nick said that it was coming into Victoria and she said right, let’s go, we grabbed our coats and off we went, all four of us, no risk assessments or forms!!!!
“I never would have been a pro violinist without the training I was lucky enough to receive at Chets.”
