Lulu Yang, Chetham's 1999-2014

Self employed performer, also working at Chetham's

“Since leaving Chetham’s I received a full scholarship to study BMus at RNCM with Norma Fisher. I graduated in 2008 with First Class Honours. Afterwards I received a full scholarship to study MMus at Yale School of Music with Peter Frankl. It’s an intense two year course and I graduated in 2010. After that I came back to the UK and was a freelance performer and started to look for teaching work in schools. I was lucky enough to be employed by Oakham School and Chetham’s within the first year of my return from America, and since then I have got married and have two sons.

I came to Chets from China at the age of 14 speaking very little English. Chets provide me with an incredibly stimulating and productive environment both musically and academically. It also provided me with much need pastoral support in those difficult early years when I was settling in and finding it hard to communicate and feeling lonely. The staff nurtured and looked after me and helped me develop and mature both personally and professionally. I owe the success of my further studies at the RNCM and Yale and subsequent career to Chets without a doubt and I will always be grateful for that.”
