Manchester Vocal Weekend

23 Feb — 24 Feb 2019

It was at Chetham’s that the award winning baritone, Marcus Farnsworth, developed his passion for song. Beginning as a chorister in Nottinghamshire, he joined the School to study trumpet and Jazz piano before changing track to begin voice training with Martin Bussey. He returns to Chetham’s with the first Manchester Vocal Weekend – two days of vocal performances and events, led by Marcus alongside soprano Ruby Hughes and pianist Joseph Middleton.

Marcus founded the ‘imaginative, beautiful and creative’ Southwell Music Festival in 2014, and brings the same spirit of camaraderie, musical passion and exceptional artistry to Manchester in its inaugural year. We’re also working closely with Leeds Lieder Festival to bring its most successful elements ‘on tour’ across the Pennines, from superb performers to powerful participatory projects.
