From their popular weekly Tuesday Folk People programme, Home Stage is proud to present some of the brightest stars in English folk music on a short summer tour. Moving from our online platform that has reached over 150,000 people, to a stage near you!

From the 100 artists we have presented on Tuesday Folk People, we have selected a range of performers who demonstrate the diverse sounds, styles and techniques of the English folk scene. From amateurs to professionals, up-and-coming artists to household names, traditional folk performers to singer-songwriters, you will experience it all.

Bob Fox, the long-time stalwart of UK folk, has been described by Ralph McTell as “one of the best voices in England.” Exploring both traditional and contemporary songs, Bob has been active since the ‘70s. He has honed a repertoire rich with songs from the northeast of England, particularly those of the coal mining communities. A fine performer, Bob captivates his audience with his outstanding musicianship, engaging charisma and extensive knowledge of the northeast and its folk scene.

Norfolk-based band The Shackleton Trio promise to bring a lively, bombastic element to the show. Described as “sparky, charismatic and intensely assured” by fRoots Magazine, the trio boast imaginative re-workings of traditional folk standards, which blend seamlessly alongside their own original numbers. Highly energetic and hard-working, The Shackleton Trio have been featured on Mark Radcliffe’s Radio 2 Folk Show as well as Radio 4, as well as appearing on the main stage at Cambridge Folk Festival.

Young duo Good Habits, fresh from making a name for themselves in New Zealand, are scorching a trail across the UK. With a sound that is innovative, exciting and unique, the pair describe themselves as alt-folk, using cello and accordion as rock bands use guitars and drums. Good Habits create musical tales with captivating lyrics married to their unique brand of instrumental virtuosity.

Up-and-coming North-East duo The Brothers Gillespie are “showing off British acoustic music in its best possible light,” according to Folk Radio UK. The widely-travelled Sam and James sing songs of great lyrical power, boosted by the undeniably powerful sound of sibling vocal harmony. Their songs have a rare, intimate energy that is both earthy and ethereal, romantic and radical.

The evening promises to be a wonderful mix of the very best of English folk music.
