Violetta on Tour

Violetta is an ensemble formed by our younger string players, under the direction of Dr Owen Cox, Deputy Head of Strings.  Violetta give regular performances in School and at Manchester Cathedral, and will soon embark upon a brand new tour of primary schools in collaboration with the Outreach team.

In July 2016, Violetta visited schools in Tameside, Trafford and Bury to deliver a presented concert to audiences of primary school children. Overall, Violetta played to over 600 enthusiastic children. Members of the orchestra demonstrated their instruments and explained how their role in the orchestra before answering some really good questions from the audiences. Dr Cox explained a lot more about string instruments and encouraged the children to listen and respond to the music they heard.

Violetta will be out and about again in the new school year, bringing their lively approach to string playing and introducing their instruments to young people in the region.

Serenata, our slightly older ensemble, have also been involved in outreach sessions to schools in 2016. Playing to around 200 primary schoolchildren in Stockport on October 16, the young musicians and Dr Cox fielded some great questions from their audiences – whose ages ranged from 5 to 11.
