With a dedicated team of pastoral house staff, New College House is a friendly, sociable and caring place for our boarders, aged 13-18 in Years 9 to 13.
Students can sample the hustle and bustle of Manchester City Centre and enjoy clean, safe facilities that allow them to excel in their studies, and establish lifelong friendships along the way.
New College House was first opened by HM The Queen in December 1994. Its location on campus creates easy access for our Middle School and Sixth Form boarders to settle at the school and immerse themselves in everything we have to offer.
The house is shared between Middle School and Sixth Form students, with Years 9 to 11 occupying 4-person dorms and Sixth Form students occupying single and double dorms. All dorms have bathrooms, secure storage and desks.
New College House contains common rooms on each floor including kitchenettes and televisions. The Duty room on the ground floor contains a small school computer suite for studies. Our house staff live within their own flats in New College House and are always on hand to tend to their students. Our catering staff at Chetham’s also provide three meals a day and supplies for student kitchenettes within the building.
Students are always made aware of who is on duty and where to go when they need a staff member. Regularly scheduled sign-ins ensure that all our boarders come and go from their lessons and extra-curricular activities safely and securely.
Days are structured for our students to include mandatory study time and sports activities (or Fit to Perform), as well as mentoring for our Sixth Form students who are encouraged to take on further responsibility in their daily organisation.
We also host extracurricular activities on a regular basis, including Saturday night social events, film nights and a wide range of other exciting activities and weekend trips organised by the house staff. New College House is truly a home-from-home for our boarders who live here.
