Conducted by Grant Llewellyn (Chetham’s Alumni 1971-1978), Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra and Chorus take to The Bridgewater Hall stage to perform music by Rachmaninov, Harvey and Walton.

Highlights include Rachmaninov’s Piano Concert No.2, which is one of the most recognisable and beloved piano works of all time. It was recently voted number one in Classic FM’s Hall of Fame, 150 years after the composer was born.

Belshazzar’s Feast, by William Walton, is a work for chorus and orchestra on a massive scale and celebrated conductor Herbert von Karajan once referred to it as ‘the best choral music that’s been written in the last 50 years’. Depicting the biblical fall of Babylon, Belshazzar’s Feast is filled with drama and orchestral effects that have influenced notable musicians including film composer John Williams.

Bringing us up to the present day, Concerto Incantato was composed in 2009 and shows the incredible range of the recorder family, from lower tenor up to the tiny sopranino, with dazzling tunes from the acclaimed film and TV composer Richard Harvey.

North-West based choir St George’s Singers will also join Chetham’s Symphony and Orchestra for performances.
