Schumann’s Scenes from Childhood: Lunchtime Concert

A student plays the piano at Chetham's School of Music

Chetham’s Lunchtime Concert series continues every Friday at 1.30pm throughout July on our YouTube channel.

Our latest concert features the entire 13 pieces of Schumann’s Scenes from Childhood.

The set was inspired by Schumann’s wife’s comment that he sometime’s “seemed like a child”. Composed in 1838, he described them as being more cheerful, gentler and more melodic than his earlier works.

The concert also features Bach’s Prelude and Fugue in G minor and Webster’s Scherzo.

Congratulations to our young musicians Jacqueline, Laura and Alex for their outstanding performances.
