We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded a grant of £90,000 by the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation.
The £90,000 grant will fund the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation Bursary which will be awarded to students over three years, based on talent and financial need. The award will enable aspiring young musicians to attend Chetham’s and access exceptional tuition and guidance, where cost may be a barrier.
Entry to Chetham’s is based solely on musical potential, and never the ability to pay. Over 90% of our students receive some financial support to aid them in their studies, whilst nearly 20% pay no fees at all. We are grateful for the government’s Music and Dance Scheme, which enables us to offer means-tested bursaries to many of our UK-resident students, though the need of our students is much greater than this provision. We must therefore continue to source additional bursary funding from other sources.
Since 2010, the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation has awarded grants of £18m to support high quality training and personal development, as well as other projects that make a real difference to enrich the quality of life both for individuals and within local communities.
These bursaries will provide young musicians with the opportunity to develop into the music stars of tomorrow. We are thrilled to have received the largest grant in the Foundation’s portfolio and would like to extend a huge thank you to the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation for their support!
