We will open our doors for a spectacular summer school on Sunday 30 July – Saturday 5 August 2023.
We can’t wait to welcome 100 aspiring young musicians from around the world to enjoy a one-week residential summer school focusing on orchestral, vocal and piano. The course, designed for young musicians aged 11-17 and working at grade 4+ level, offers students the opportunity to develop their ensemble playing and technical skills, meet like-minded people, and work with exceptional musicians, artists and teachers from Chetham’s School of Music. The week culminates in a wonderful concert for parents at The Stoller Hall.
Students will progress their technical skill and wider personal skills including communication and team work, accepting and giving feedback, creative expression, confidence and presentation. The week will also promote best practice on musical health and wellbeing, and provide space to make new musical connections and friendships.
We’re extremely grateful to the British Double Reed Society (BDRS) who are working with us this year to promote inspiring progression opportunities for young musicians learning double reed instruments. They have kindly funded a place at Summer School for local basoonist Shaun.
Shaun’s mum said: “This experience would ordinarily be out of our reach, and I am so grateful to the BDRS for making this possible. Shaun fell in love with the Bassoon when Trafford Music visited his primary school. I am excited for this to further develop his skill and passion.”
Vicki Ciaputa, our Creative Engagement Manager, said: “We are so grateful that this financial support from the BDRS has made it possible for Shaun to enjoy Summer School this year. It’s through partnerships like this that Chetham’s can support young musicians to access inspirational teachers, our beautiful concert hall and develop into the next generation of world-class classical musicians.”
