Martyn Parkes

Martyn Parkes was born and educated in Yorkshire, England, before moving across the Pennines to Manchester in 1994 to take up a Postgraduate place on the Piano Accompaniment course at The Royal Northern College of Music. He was appointed as a staff accompanist there in 1997.

His busy career to date has featured numerous highlights. He has worked in Manchester with both The BBC Philharmonic Orchestra and Hallé Orchestra. He has worked for Granada TV (The Forsyte Saga) Carlton TV (Britain’s Brilliant Prodigies) BBC Radio 4 (You and Yours) and BBC TV (Young Musicians and Classical Star.)

Martyn has accompanied recitals at many international venues, including The Wigmore Hall in London, The Bridgewater Hall in Manchester, Llangollen Pavilion in Wales, The Nordic House in Reykjavik, Iceland and St. Johns Church on the South Bank in Melbourne, Australia. On the domestic front, duo recitals have been given for many Music Clubs and Societies, including Manchester Midday Concerts Series, St. Martin-in-the-Fields Young Artists Lunchtime Series, Leigh Music Club, Warwick and Hull University lunchtime Recital Series’, Kendal Music Club, Burnley and Pendle Music Society, Leek Music Society, Penrith Lunchtime Concerts, St Ann’s and St. Emanuel Church Recitals in Manchester respectively.

In April 2006, Martyn began his new post as Full time Accompanist at Chetham’s School of Music, in Manchester.
