Make Some Noise this summer

We’re so excited to launch a brand-new project called Make Some Noise in time for the school summer holidays, offering music workshops for children aged 11-15 from Manchester.

The project is a partnership between us (Chetham’s School of Music), and Wood Street Mission, a charity helping children and families living on a low income in Manchester and Salford.

Free workshops will include songwriting, beatboxing, singing, rock band, DJ-ing, and music journalism. They will take place in the world-class facilities of local music venue Stoller Hall, which is part of Chetham’s School of Music.

Experienced professional musicians from across the UK will run the workshops, and trained staff from Wood Street Mission will be on hand to support children’s confidence. The Manchester College will also be involved in some of the sessions, and participants will have the chance to work with their tutors and students.

This project is supported by the Manchester office of national law firm Mills & Reeve as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility fund and it will run for the next three years, keeping children entertained and teaching them valuable new skills.

Vicki Ciaputa, Creative Engagement Manager at Chetham’s:

“We’re thrilled to launch Make Some Noise this summer, bringing young people together to be creative in Stoller Hall. We are incredibly grateful to Mills & Reeve and Wood Street Mission for making this happen, as well as the children at 4CT Youth Club for their time so far in developing the programme.”

Des Lynch, Wood Street Mission:

“The tangible aspect of our work is vital, but we firmly believe that every child deserves to have happy childhood memories and experience activities that due to their personal circumstances, they will not otherwise have. To be able to form partnerships with organisations such as Chetham’s School of Music and Mills & Reeve means that local children will get to enjoy a summer of fun and creativity as well as forming lasting friendships.”

Ben Hardiman, Partner at Mills & Reeve:

“Wood Street Mission is our Manchester office’s charity of the year for 2024. We were absolutely delighted that we were given an opportunity to support this brilliant project with Chetham’s School of Music whose focus is to help and develop young people from families on low incomes in our local community. I cannot wait to see how the project progresses.”

Participants for the Make Some Noise project will be invited to apply through Wood Street Mission.
