Victoria House

Head of House: Miss L Cody

Victoria House is the welcoming home of Chetham’s youngest students, providing a safe, supportive, and fun environment where children can flourish academically, musically, and personally. Home to around 30 boarders and 60 day students, it offers the perfect introduction to boarding life while helping young musicians grow in confidence, independence, and friendship.

Led by Miss L Cody, Head of House, Victoria House combines outstanding pastoral care with a strong sense of community. Miss Cody has been part of the Victoria House family for over 13 years and is supported by two Deputy House Parents and a dedicated team of House Assistants. Together, they work closely with teachers and the Head of Lower School to ensure every child receives the support they need both in and beyond the classroom.

“It feels like a great big family. We’re all friends, and although you do miss home a lot, it’s great!”
– Year 7 Student

A Home Away From Home

We understand that sending a child away from home for the first time can feel daunting. That’s why creating a warm, nurturing environment is at the heart of everything we do. Victoria House is much more than a boarding house. It is a caring community where children feel known, valued, and supported every day.

Our house staff live within Victoria House and maintain an open-door approach, helping students settle quickly and build the confidence to thrive. Regular communication between house staff, teachers, and parents ensures that every child is fully supported academically, socially, emotionally, and musically.

Life in Victoria House

Students enjoy a busy and balanced routine that combines school, music, recreation, and relaxation. Alongside lessons, instrumental tuition, ensembles, and practice sessions, there is plenty of time to socialise and have fun.

After homework, students can choose from a range of activities, including:

– Arts and crafts
– Baking and cooking
– Chess and board games
– Youth Club
– Film nights
– Sports and fitness activities

Our Sixth Form Guardian Angels also play an important role, acting as mentors and role models for younger pupils, helping them settle into school life and offering support around campus.

Weekends Full of Adventure

Boarding weekends are packed with exciting activities and trips. Recent outings have included:

– Laser Quest
– Chill Factore
– Museums and galleries
– Local parks
– Swimming centres
– Cinema trips

We encourage students to suggest ideas for future activities and do our best to make them happen.

“I really like how at most times of the day there is something to do in House.”
