Since forming in 1972, the Brodsky Quartet has performed over 3000 concerts across the world. A natural curiosity and an insatiable desire to explore – the quartet stands up to perform, bringing a new brilliance to familiar pieces – guarantees energy and craftsmanship in abundance. The quartet is joined by celebrated North West pianist Martin Roscoe for an all-Elgar programme. This late trio of works, all composed in 1918, enjoy rich Manchester connections: the Quartet was written for an earlier Brodsky Quartet following a meeting in the city; whilst the Quintet is dedicated to Ernest Newman, then critic of the Manchester Guardian.
