Join us for Baronial Baroque, a concert that begins with historically informed performances of Bach, Purcell and Castello. We then change track to bring a bold fusion of Baroque and Jazz, two traditions linked by improvisation yet shaped by very different origins. Baroque grew from within courts, palaces, and cathedrals, while jazz emerged from the oppressed experience of people forcibly removed from their homelands. Our musicians will explore the common ground and shared qualities of these genres, as well as embracing moments where their energies and rhythms collide. The programme includes Purcell’s Trumpet Sonata, Bach’s Brandenburg Concerto No. 1, and Castello’s Sonata Concertate in stil moderno (Sonata Duodecima) followed by musical fusion fireworks!
