Some of the UK’s most incredible young musicians perform at their home venue, The Stoller Hall.Â
Led by guest conductor Kârin Hendrickson, Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra will explore the profound depths of Brahms’ Fourth Symphony, music full of warmth and beauty but with an undeniably tragic character. Composed while holidaying in the Austrian countryside, this music is heavily influenced by the natural beauty Brahms was submerged in, as well as by the array of emotions he felt during this time as he was beginning to think about retirement.Â
The first part of the programme has a Nordic theme, beginning with Helena Munktell’s Breaking Waves, a piece with strong Swedish influence that paints a picture of a horizon with both gentle, rolling waves as well as waves crashing onto the shore.
This will be followed by a stunning performance of Sibelius’ passionate and virtuosic Violin Concerto in D minor, performed by Chetham’s soloist Yixuan Ren.Â
