Chetham’s Philharmonic Orchestra and Ensembles Concert
The Stoller HallDiscover talented young Lower School and Middle School performers from Chetham’s School of Music, the UK’s leading music school.
Masterclass (included in lunchtime concert tickets) – 2.30pm
Following his lunchtime concert at Stoller Hall, Chris will lead a public masterclass with students from Chetham’s School of Music’s Trombone department. They will be coached on the subtlety of playing within a trombone section focussing on selected operatic extracts. Students will also look at playing the trombone in a pit band. The students will explore the different classic styles required and doubling as necessary. They will simulate going in at the last minute sight reading notable sections of a selection of musicals. Lastly, Chris will listen to a selection of pieces prepared by the students focussing on musical intention and technique.
Christopher Augustine is currently Tenor/Bass Trombone Chair Holder and Cover Conductor in Disney’s Frozen at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London. Prior to this, he was Sub-Principal Trombone with Welsh National Opera from 2018-2021. Before joining Welsh National Opera, Christopher freelanced with many of the London orchestras including London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra and Chineke! Orchestra. He has trialled for positions in the BBC Concert Orchestra (Principal), Royal Ballet Sinfonia (Sub-Principal), BBC National Orchestra of Wales (Sub-Principal) and in London’s West End has worked on Wicked, Matilda, The Lion King and Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. Christopher was also a member of the Foyle’s Future Firsts programme with the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Christopher has a BMus from Goldsmiths College, an MMus from Trinity Laban Conservatoire and spent a Postgraduate year at the Royal Academy of Music. He is also a trombone tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and is an Associate of The Royal Academy of Music.
