Part of BBC Radio 3 Manchester Week 2022
Monday 24 – Friday 28 January 2022
A young quartet with a big future, the Consone Quartet play on period instruments and use gut strings and a specially commissioned set of bows to get a more authentic sound.
The instruments and techniques uncover the light dancing strokes that the composers would have known, enabling modern audiences to connect with the music.
They are the first period instrument quartet to be selected as BBC New Generation Artists, and are fast making a name for themselves with their, honest, expressive interpretations of classical and early romantic repertoire.
The quartet will be joined by Philharmonia cellist Alexander Rolton to perform repertoire which includes one of Mozart’s most brilliant and high-spirited works, Dissonance and George Onslow’s best known work The Bullet, inspired by his near-death experience.
Following their live performance in The Stoller Hall the Consone Quartet will give a music masterclass to students from Chetham’s School of Music.
Programme:
MOZART String Quartet in C major, K.465 Dissonance
ONSLOW String Quintet No.15 in C minor, Op.38 The Bullet
