Image Frank Lennon’s Farewell Concert – Manchester Beethoven Orchestra

Manchester Beethoven Orchestra was founded in 1888 and has continued making music ever since as an amateur orchestra based in South Manchester. The orchestra is dedicated to playing good music in a friendly and sociable atmosphere, with programmes typically covering works from orchestra repertoire of the past two centuries and even though our name would suggest, its not just Beethoven!

Our summer concert for 2026 will be extra special as we celebrate 22 years of service of Frank Lennon, our conductor, as he retires after the 2025-2025 season. Prior to his role as conductor, Frank led the orchestra for 14 years as well as running play days for the wider musical community and creating varied and exciting programmes for the orchestra over many years. Frank has always been a supporter and contributor of the organisation of the orchestra behind the scenes.

The programme comprises the works of Brahms’ Festival Overture, MacDowell’s piano concerto with soloist Matthew Lau who is currently studying at the Royal Northern College of Music, and Dvorak’s New World Symphony. We hope family, friends and supporters of the orchestra will agree this will be an excellent way to thank Frank for his many years of service and to go out with a bang, and look forward to welcoming our audiences once again to the Stoller Hall.
