Featuring: Gareth Lockrane – Flutes / Alex Garnett – Saxophone / Ross Stanley – Hammond Organ
“The formidable Lockrane…a stunning display of sharp-accented runs, earthy whoops and constantly refreshed melodic ideas.” – The Guardian
Flautist and composer Gareth Lockrane started playing at the age of 10, discovering jazz at 14 after having raided his dad’s record collection.
Today he’s one of the UK’s premier jazz flautist’s, a prolific and versatile musician who makes regular sideman appearances as well as leading his own small groups plus his acclaimed contemporary big band.
As the band name suggests Grooveyard’s music is swinging and unpretentious with its roots in Blue Note era hard bop, soul jazz and funk, a wide–ranging compositional palette that reflects Lockrane’s work as a film and television composer.
In partnership with NQ Jazz and The Yard. Made possible by Arts Council England’s Supporting Grassroots Live Music fund.
Please note: When attending in-person events please allow at least 30 minutes prior to the start time to be seated in a safe and socially distanced way ready for the performance.
