Tuesday to Thursday and one hour before each concert
We’re back! Audiences are invited to experience Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra in the tailor-made setting of The Stoller Hall for the first time in 18 months.
Conducted by Lee Reynolds, the concert marks the imminent 150th anniversary of Vaughan Williams’ birth. A performance of his Serenade to Music – a piece so beautiful it reportedly brought Sergei Rachmaninoff to tears – will offer audiences the chance to enjoy Chetham’s vocalists as well as orchestral musicians.
The programme will feature works by composers who studied with Vaughan Williams: from Ravel’s Une Barque Sur L’Océan to Ruth Gipps’ Symphony No. 2.
Chetham’s will be the first youth orchestra ever to play Gipps’ Symphony No. 2, in a programme that also celebrates pioneering female composers. This will be followed by Fairtrade, by Ayanna Witter-Johnson.
Meanwhile, a performance of Ibert’s Flute Concerto will star Chetham’s flautist Sofia.
