Our new exhibition, A Royal Tudor Bed and a Northern Rogue (Thursday 15 August – Wednesday 11 September) is a rare opportunity to see the original marriage bed made for Henry VII (the first Tudor King) and Elizabeth of York, as well as an infamous forgery. Alongside the exhibition, we are hosting a series of free talks.
Tucked away in a Chester hotel suite as its bridal ‘four poster’, this talk explores the bed’s discovery and the subsequent fourteen-year research trail unravelling the story of this remarkable survival.
Made for the January 1486 marriage of Henry VII and Elizabeth of York, the bed’s materiality is addressed, as well as an account of its fascinating characteristics articulating unity, royal authority, divinity, and parenthood.
Visitors will be given the opportunity to view the Tudor bed exhibition at the end of the talk, and to ask Ian any questions they may have.
