We’ve received a glowing report from ISI (Independent School’s Inspectorate) following an inspection that took place earlier this year.
Our School is the largest specialist music school in the UK and the only one in the North West of England. UK students are awarded places here based on musical ability and potential, not ability to pay, thanks to generous bursaries through the Government’s Music and Dance Scheme.
The inspection team witnessed firsthand how teachers and tutors share their extensive knowledge and extraordinary experience with musically gifted young people.
We are particularly praised in the report for ensuring there is a balanced curriculum and effective careers guidance, so students have every opportunity to fulfil their future aspirations, whatever they may be. This was noted as a ‘significant strength’ of the school – a rare accolade from ISI.
As well as observing teachers and tutors, the inspectors also credited security staff, medical staff, caterers, boarding and pastoral staff for supporting students, looking after their welfare and creating a strong sense of community. Students feel safe, happy and cared for.
Joint Principal of Chetham’s School of Music, Nicola Smith, said: “We’re thrilled with this overwhelmingly positive inspection report, and I am very proud of our dedicated team who are absolutely committed to educating and inspiring the next generation of musicians, creatives and thinkers.
“I’m also proud of our students who are described in the report as courteous, kind and considerate, and commended for valuing and respecting each other’s efforts and achievements. They are a credit to our School.
“Chetham’s is an extraordinary place to live, learn and make connections and we look forward to building on this good work.”
