Standing ovation for our sixth form…

The results are in, and we’re delighted for our sixth-form students for achieving a brilliant set of A-Level exam results. Many of them have places to study at top universities and music conservatories around the world:

98% pass rate
• Almost a third of all grades were A* or A
• Over 80% of students achieved grades A* – C
• Many students have scholarships at the best conservatoires in the country, including Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music and Royal College of Music and Royal Northern College of Music.
• Six students passed the post-A level AMusTCL awarded by Trinity College London, which is the equivalent of First Year undergraduate study
• Two students have confirmed places at Cambridge and another at Oxford. Others are going to Kings College London, Durham University, and York University…
• All Year 12 students who did music A-Level a year early scored A* or A
• 10% of year 12s sat their maths A-Level exam early and achieved grades A – C

We’re very proud that these results are higher than the national average in the UK. Students have also given back to the community by performing in care homes, other schools, and public spaces; toured with the Welsh National Opera and crafted their very own soap opera; collaborated with world-class professional musicians; represented Chetham’s overseas; written their own compositions; won competitions; and visited and taken to the stage at iconic music venues including The Bridgewater Hall and Birmingham Hippodrome.

Putting a cherry on top of an already extraordinary year, we received a glowing report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate recently in which students were praised for being courteous, kind and considerate, and commended for valuing and respecting each other’s efforts and achievements.

Joint Principal, Nicola Smith, said: “All our brilliant students are a credit to the School, and I am very proud of our sixth formers for their academic and music results today. Everyone at Chetham’s will be cheering them on as they take their next steps and thrive across the musical world and beyond.

“Our dedicated team of teachers and support staff offer the highest quality education and care possible, equipping students with the skills they need to make a success of their adult lives, whatever they may choose to do. Thanks to them, Chetham’s is truly the most magical place to be, with unparalleled opportunities and experiences for young musicians.”

We all wish our students luck and good wishes for the next part of their journey.

Congratulations class of 2024!
