Chetham’s International Piano Summer School (CIPSS) brings world-class and legendary musicians to a vibrant, supportive community in central Manchester.

Part One: 13–18 August 2025
Faculty includes Margaret Fingerhut, Nikki Iles, Freddy Kempf, Leon McCawley and Noriko Ogawa.

Part Two: 18–23 August 2025
Faculty includes Fabio Bidini, Peter Donohoe, Charles Owen, Piers Lane and Joanna MacGregor.

Whether attending concerts in the Stoller Hall, observing lessons, or participating actively as an adult amateur, international young artist, student, school pupil or a parent, there are unprecedented opportunities for all who love piano and piano-related activities.

Jazz, theory, composition, teaching piano, theory, analysis, contemporary piano, Dalcroze, Kodaly, music technology and much more are offered in addition to classical piano lessons, lectures, recitals and workshops.

Housed in the magnificent grounds of Chetham’s School of Music, the course offers unprecedented facilities, including over 130 pianos and practice/teaching rooms, award-winning acoustics in the Stoller Hall, en-suite bedrooms and stunning medieval architecture juxtaposed with modern amenities.

But it is the atmosphere and spirit of CIPSS that really makes it so special, giving it an international reputation as ‘the friendliest piano summer school in the world’. Though standards can often be phenomenal and winners of prestigious competitions have participated in the course, it has never been elitist nor exclusive. Beginner and intermediate players, observers and adult returners always feel most welcomed.

Hundreds of piano enthusiasts, students, teachers, adult amateurs and families have warmed to the unique experience of CIPSS over the years. 2025 promises to build on that tradition, providing an exceptionally rich programme of world-class recitals in the Stoller Hall along with lectures, open lessons and opportunities to develop skills in composition, theory, analysis, improvisation, harpsichord and organ in addition to solo piano.

CIPSS welcomes everyone who adores the piano and piano-playing. We are all part of a positive community, united by our musical passion.

Fees range from £120 for a daily observer to £1,975 for a two-part residential (en-suite room) participant aged 26 & over.
