Lulu Yang was born in China, 1985. She started to play the piano at the age of 5 and from 1999 to 2004 she studied at Chetham’s School of Music with Manola Hatfield and Norma Fisher on a full scholarship. She continued her study with Norma Fisher at the Royal Northern College of Music and in 2008 she graduated with a first class honours degree. In 2010 she graduated with a Masters degree at Yale School of Music with Peter Frankl.
Lulu has given many solo recitals in the UK including venues in London, Manchester, Liverpool, Preston, Sunderland, Harrogate, Newcastle, Isle of Man, Hastings, and at the Cheltenham Festival. She has also performed in Holland, Switzerland, USA and Jordan and has been invited on concert tours of Russia and China.
She has played a number of concertos including Mendelssohn Concerto No.1 with the London Soloist Chamber Orchestra at St Martin-in-the-Fields, Saint Saens Concerto No. 2 with the Chethams Symphony Orchestra in Bridgewater Hall and with the RNCM Symphony Orchestra (under Paul Daniel). She performed Beethoven Concerto No. 3 with the Amman Symphony Orchestra in Jordan and Mozart Concert K.415 with String Quartet at the RNCM Mozart Festival.
Lulu is the 1st prize winner of The Musicas Fund Music Awards For Students 2000, 1st prize winner of The Beethoven Piano Competition London 2001, 1st prize winner of The Moray Piano Competition in Scotland 2002, 1st prize winner of Hattori Foundation (Junior); 3rd prize winner of The Third International Piano Competition for Young Musicians in Enschede, Holland; 1st prize winner of both the Recital Prize and Chopin Competition at the RNCM. Lulu was also awarded the Loyde & William C.G Ortel scholarship and Stephen & Denise Adams scholarship during her study at Yale.
Lulu has appeared in the Media several times – her concert tour of Russia was filmed and broadcast by ITV – and she has also been interviewed by Greater Manchester Radio.
Lulu currently teaches piano at Chetham’s School of Music and she performs regular concerts including solo piano and chamber music.
