Ruth Hahn studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where she was awarded the major prizes. Having graduated with distinction, she was invited to join the advanced solo studies class under Yfrah Neaman. This was followed by further studies in Geneva, Switzerland with Ayla Erduran. Amongst others, she was mentored by Max Rostal, Igor Ozim, and members of the Amadeus String Quartet.
Next to her extensive appearances as soloist and ensemble partner, Ruth has played with orchestras such as the Royal Opera, English Chamber Orchestra and Lucerne Symphony Orchestra. She has recorded for the BBC and Georgian Radio, playing a solo programme of works by Bach and Ysaÿe. This repertoire has generated an area of specialized study.
As a teacher, Ruth is regularly invited to give masterclasses and is a faculty member at Astona International, Switzerland. Many of her students have won prizes at competitions and gained places at major conservatoires in the UK and abroad.
Ruth is passionate about bringing an awareness in her teaching to the particular language of a composer within its wider context, and how this can best be expressed through the technique of the instrument.
Next to her role at Chethams, Ruth also teaches at Junior Guildhall in London. She plays on a Gioffredo Cappa violin from 1705.
