Chetham’s Flute Day – Friday 15th November in association with Powell Flutes
Flautists of all ages, from teachers, learners, performers and enthusiasts are invited to join us for an afternoon and evening dedicated to this exquisite instrument.
Headlining the day will be our former student Adam Walker, now Principal Flute of the London Symphony Orchestra, celebrated soloist and chamber musician and visiting professor of the Royal College of Music.
The afternoon begins with an opportunity to work alongside Chetham’s expert staff, as they lead a range of workshops, focussed on all aspects of the flute. Performers of all ages and stages are invited to choose from a variety of friendly participatory sessions, helping them to develop technique and musicianship, perhaps to help prepare for concerts, exams and auditions or simply for share a love for the flute! For flute teachers meanwhile, focussed professional training sessions explore ideas to challenge, support and develop their students’ learning.
Afterwards, join Adam Walker as he leads a public flute masterclass. Be inspired and gain professional playing and teaching tips as he focuses on presentation, performance and technique; and chat to representatives from Powell Flutes for specialist advice or try out new instruments.
The day culminates with a flute recital of the highest quality given by Adam Walker together with Chetham’s staff pianist Nick Oliver – rounding off a truly inspirational and memorable celebration of the flute.
